Power supply to CPU on motherboard, cords are not matching up... can you help?

Hi there , I'm building a PC with parts I bought at MC. I'm attempting to connect a ROG Strix B550 Gaming motherboard to a 750watt PowerSpec power supply. The connectors don't seem to match up on the motherboard. The eight pin receptacle on the mother board has the four pin cord fitting in with two pins open on either side, see photo... is this correct?? thanks

While the board you have has a total of 12 pins available, it's really an 8-pin and 4-pin connector. The extra 4-pin is there in case you have a use case that leads to really, really high power draw out of your CPU, but that would only apply if you get one of the really high end Ryzen CPUs and do some pretty heavy overclocking Outside of that, the 8-pin connector is more than sufficient by itself.

Just use the 8-pin connection on the right, and leave the 4-pin connection open.
