PowerSpec G468 games crashing
After 20-30 minutes my games either crash or the whole computer freezes. I've tried both Overwatch and New World. Overwatch has crashed around 15 times so far.
Pls help.
The GPU temp is fine. Usually around 70-75c. I've tried to rollback the driver, but there isn't even an option for me the roll back. It's cemented out.
I'm about to take it into microcenter and get a refund.

Greetings. Please try a clean install of your video card drivers, here is a step by step guide on how to do this:
-
Thanks Ian. I believe this solved my issues. No crashes after a few hours of gaming.
How often does the first try to solve actually fix the issues? Feels good. thanks.

When it comes to problems related to gaming like this, it is usually caused by something GPU related. Which performing a clean install of the GPU drivers can solve a number of these issues. I am glad it solved the problem you were having.
It's not always the first suggestion that solves the issue but it is certainly nice when that happens. 😁

Update. Looks like I'm still experiencing crashes 😌

I do apologize you are still having issues with this. If you look in the event viewer, do you see any error or critical messages here in the system logs? if so what do they have for the error?
-
not sure where you want me to look in event viewer
-
getting a ton of errors. Usually only critical when the whole computer freezes

Hello @NrM
Unfortunately, with these event logs, it's sorta generic and hard to pin on what is causing issues. What I want to try is see if it's the GPU under load that is causing this issue. Crashing sounds like it only happens in game, does it happen during other times when using your computer?
Have you tried lowering the resolution of your games and setting all settings on low to lower the load? This is just to test to see if it's specifically a possible GPU issue.
-
Crashing only happens in game. I've lowered settings before and still crash. Haven't lowered resolution. Newer more gpu intensive games seem to crash and freeze more often. I haven't tried setting everything to the lowest. I guess I'll try that and report back.
-
sounds like I would just be better off taking it in to microcenter and having them look at it
-
@NrM just chiming in. Sorry you are having these issues with the Powerspec. Yes, please bring it into the store. Have our Techs there look it over.
-
It's possible that this could be an issue with the way that the GPU is overclocking itself (NVIDIA GPU Boost). This combined with the GDDR6X can lead to some weird GPU crashes. Is it always crashing and rebooting or do you notice it crashing to a black screen and then needing to restart your computer?
Could you please download HWinfo to see what the Thermal Junction temperature is for your GPU? Sometimes the thermal pads can be a little finicky with these newer GPUs. While the core temp may be in range, the mem junction can be throttling. It may require higher fan speeds or a bit of tweaking with your GPU clocks.
This is all speculation at this point. Our technicians in the store would be able to run thorough diagnostics to see what's going on.
