POWERSPEC G470 Status_access_violation on all browsers.
Started getting these errors on all browsers.
I've reinstalled windows, reinstalled applications, reset cache.
Any other ideas? Reddit seems to think that its CPU related.
Here's an LTT thread - I don't have the artifacting though: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1406130-browser-keeps-crashing-status_access_violation-artifacts/

First thing I'd try is disabling hardware acceleration. Settings - System - Use Hardware Acceleration when available = off.
Nvidia cards have had some issues with ANGLE and Chrome for a while. Second thing I'd try:
- Paste this into your browser window: chrome://flags/#use-angle
- Change the highlighted item from Default to OpenGL.
-
I've made those changes and will report back!

Hey Mike,
I can confirm something is wrong with I believe my CPU. It has been constant errors.
Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KF, 3200 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
Looking up some research I found the following:
Weird crashes while browsing, gaming and using anti virus software : r/techsupport (reddit.com)
Intel i9 and crashing games : r/techsupport (reddit.com)
My PC is under a warranty - is this something that can be swapped out?
-
Yes, CPU failure would be covered under warranty. Intel hasn't made a statement about the Alder Lake Processors being affected, but ASUS does have a BIOS out with the updated microcode to address the issue.
-
Are you recommending that I update the bios to this and test?
-
Yes, it's worth testing to see if the default power limits resolve or partially resolve the issue.
-
Sounds good. Will do so today and will update you in due time!
-
Hey Mike! BIOS is officially updated.
Having similar issues except worse now? Constant app crashes, status access violations. I reinstalled windows prior to making this thread. Think it's time to bring it into my local shop and have them test it?
-
Certainly an option. If you want to go further, try memtestx86 and start with RAM. We can do that in store under the warranty as well.
-
Ran memtest and it ran for around 30 or so seconds before getting these errors on my CPU.
-
Next step is to try to isolate it to a stick/slot.
Remove stick in A2, run the test again. If it fails reinstall A2, and remove B2 then test again. If it fails, bad IMC. If it passes, move A2 to B2 and test again. If it fails, bad slot/board. If it passes, stick in B2 was bad.
-
Isn't the above error the memory in my CPU? Or am I confused?
-
No, these are the memory modules. The CPU on the end just tells you what core the error occurred on, it doesn't specifically mean it's a cache issue.
-
Thanks for the update and your guidance.
Removed A2, ran memtest and got 10,000+ errors. It errored out in 3 minutes. Installed A2 back into it's slot. Removed B2, ran memtest and got 10,000+ errors. Same thing, timeout in 3 to 4 minutes.
Does this point to the IMC like you said earlier?
-
Very likely. Which tests did the errors occur on?
-
Errors occurred on almost all tests, but the bulk of them were on 4 and 5.
-
Usually you're heavier on 8, 11 and 12 with unstable or faulty RAM modules. Very possible it's the RAM. Do Prime95 small FFT's. That'll hammer the cache, if it starts throwing out tons of rounding errors you'll be fairly certain.
-
Hey @PowerSpec_MikeW,
Ran for 25 minutes. Interesting result. I ran stock Prime95 with small FFT's and got back 0 errors and 0 warnings. Here's a snippet of one worker:
So does this simply point to bad sticks of ram or potentially the motherboard?
-
No way you're passing small FFT's with a bad cache. Can you try one stick in a slot you haven't used? A1 as an example.
-
So just as a test, my buddy brought 32 gb's of ram 3600MHz, I plugged it in and I'm not longer getting a single error on memtest at all. PC seems to running very good. How does the warranty work in this situation? Do I bring the entire PC into the shop, or can I just bring the RAM?
-
Did you load XMP on that RAM? It's certainly possible to have two bad sticks but it's really strange for it to occur at the same time. Yes, bring it into the store would be the process at this point. Sorry, I looked through our inventory here and I don't have any of the old good 3600 C16 Hynix CJR/DJR kits or I'd give it to you.
-
Very odd for the pair to be bad.
New ram, I did load XMP on it! It's running right now at 3600.
I tested off and on in terms of the old (broken) ram. For 50$ I think it's just best I eat the cost at this point. I appreciate your support.
