Black screen/Overclocking error when waking PC up from sleep (usually after overnight)

Options

Hello.

I recently purchased a PowerSpec prebuilt, G4447.

I've noticed when I put the computer to sleep, and wake it up, it starts to boot up but fails, black screen, and I get an error regarding failing during overclocking/OC.

Is there any steps I can take to troubleshoot this? The PC seems fine when gaming, it's only when I have the system sleeping for more than a few hours where this SEEMS to occur.

Best,

Jeff

Could be memory related. I'd disable XMP in the BIOS, then save. See if it wakes up on the JEDEC profile. We can tweak it from there.

  • Was this ever resolved? Just bought a G447 and it's doing the same thing. Doesn't seem to matter how long its been sleeping. Happens probably 50% of the time when waking.

Mine does the same (as did a prior G229 which I always just ignored) but I'd prefer this be resolved on this new machine. I don't overclock and haven't changed anything else in the bios. What's going on?

  • @vahpr So this happened to my G447 recently after a Windows 11 update which resulted in a system crash. Some googling showed me that sometimes a Windows Update related crash can mess with the memory.

I was surprised to see this error because I had not done any overclocking myself. But when I restored default BIOS settings I noticed the machine was putting my RAM at 4800mhz despite the RAM being 6000mhz and the system previously showing the RAM at 6000mhz. So I think the "overclocking failed" issue was referring to the "overclock" of the manufacturer having set the RAM at 6000mhz despite the default setting being 4800mhz. I used the Memory Try It option (not XMP) to manually set the RAM speed (look at your exact RAM model so you can choose the exact memory profile). I haven't had any issues since then, fingers crossed.
