Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors are here (not sure what's new? Check out our overview!) and we got a chance to try out the Core i9-13900k. Unsurprisingly, Intel has delivered another blisteringly fast, top-of-the-line processor. So, we put it to the test. Here are our benchmarks:
Cinebench tests processors for responsiveness and power in both intensive tasks (multi-core) and general daily usage tasks (single-core). While the graph below does compare a Core i7 to a Core i9 (a bit unfair), that is more for demonstration purposes. Our testing showed that the i9-13900K is topping Cinebench's scoreboard, beating even Intel's own Xeon W-3265M CPU, a processor designed for high-end workstations!
We've included our Intel 12th Gen Core i7-12700K benchmarks for comparison.
3DMark's CPU Profile tests single- and multi-thread performance at a variety of thread counts. Here, the i9-13900K puts on a very strong showing, absolutely sitting high up in the rankings and proving that this is a processor that will push games to their limits.
PassMark's CPU Mark test puts the processor through a number of different tests, including maths, physics, and compressions tests. With a score of 56,184.6, the Core i9-13900K sits in the 99th percentile of all CPUs, definitively showing that it is a processor to be reckoned with.
right now, i believe it's safe to say the 13th gen is beating the new amd processors
Healthy competition between AMD and Intel is good for everyone. Simple refreshes are not enough! Innovation is what the consumer wants and needs if they are going to be separated from their dollars.
The best way for AMD to respond is to reduce their prices on the new 7000 processors. Raptor Lake kinda came in and really showed how capable the hybrid architecture is. Not only do they outperform the new AMD CPUs in most conventional tasks, they also are better priced. It also does not help that you have to move to the new AM5 platform and spend a lot on DDR5 RAM while you can still use DDR4 on the Intel platform. AMD has to respond soon, or Intel is going to start taking back all the market share AMD has worked hard to gain since the first generation of Ryzen.
Does anyone else get the sudden urge to watch Jurassic Park whenever you hear Raptor Lake?
Maybe I should send my new 12th Gen i7 based Surface Pro 9 back to Microsoft....
My Geek Bench 5 scores weren't great at all: Single Core: 1655 Multi Core: 9100
At least I don't have to send this Surface Pro 9 back to Microsoft until Jan 31, 2023 :)
I'm still rocking an 8th Gen i7. These benchmarks are tempting me to upgrade that processor LOL
It is a fantastic piece of hardware. Not that it should weight that heavily, but the Cinebench 23 score they listed above is lower than most. Most see something in the 38,000-40,000 range.
