ssd upgrade-windows 7 to 10

Hello, I have a nice DEll pc desktop with windows 10 and harddrive (1terrabyte).  now, i want to upgrade samsung ssd 500gigs (lower storage) and windows 10..  is it better to do a fresh install windows 10 and no cloning of my system??  (i don't need my programs anymore and i backed up my files, photos already).  help here, with steps. thank you..  also, do i need to buy windows 10 license or what?

thanks for the reply. can you put here so everybody can read it..  Also, in my pc i see OS (C) drive and recovery image (D).  what is this D  is i do fresh install windows?  also, where to download windows 10 with my usb flash drive?

Hi, @chrisnewpc and welcome! I'm not seeing another reply to your discussion and I wanted to make sure that you get an answer. 😊

If you're sure that all of your data is backed up and you don't need any of your programs, I'd recommend starting from a fresh install of Windows 10.

Typically, if you have Windows 10 installed on your computer, you will not need to buy a new license, as it will transfer over automatically.

The (D:) drive is a partition of your (C:) drive that has been made to help restore or recover your system, should there be an error.
