Good Gaming Laptop for 14 year old for under$1500 all-in?

Hi all:

My son is going off to a boarding school in Sept and isn't allowed to bring his PC. You guys helped a ton when he was deciding on his build last year about this time, and he has really enjoyed his system, so figured I'd come back to the forum for advice on the laptop question, too. I believe his school uses google classroom, so I could do an inexpensive chromebook, but I know he'd go crazy if he's not able to play some video games with his friends back home when he has downtime. So I want to get him something that will function well for his school stuff for the next two years that he can also game on. I was looking at the Dell G15 5510 15.6" Gaming Laptop, which would seem to not really be a step down from his PC in terms of components:

  • Intel Core i7 10th Gen 10870H 2.2GHz Processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6
  • 16GB DDR4-2933 RAM
  • 1TB Solid State Drive
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Home
  • Killer E2600 Network
  • 2x2 Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201+Bluetooth 5.1
  • 15.6" Full HD WVA Anti-Glare LED-backlit Narrow Border 165Hz Display

But I'm hoping to keep at at or under $1500 all in (tax, microsoft home/student, etc). Any suggestions on other gaming laptops that have essentially the same specs but may be a little less so I can make my budget? Thanks y'all!
