PLEASE HELP! New ASUS XG49VQ Monitor Fails to Display as Sole Monitor
Please help...I have a seemingly unfixable issue with a brand new Asus XG49VQ monitor I recently bought from MC to replace my current 3-monitor setup.
My current setup:
Powerspec G223 with no major modifications, other than new 32GB RAM (installed 2020 to replace OEM memory) and new motherboard heat sink (installed June 2021)
Windows 10 (64-bit)
Graphics card = Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Monitors = 3 x Dell E2214H
Center monitor is connected with DVI to HDMI cable, outer two monitors are connected with DVI to Display Port
THE PROBLEM:
In short, the new Asus monitor will NOT display when connected by itself (standalone). If one (or more) of the older monitors is connected at startup, then windows does detect the Asus monitor. It can be set as the primary display and will stay on/functional even when the older monitor is disconnected. HOWEVER, when the system is restarted, the Asus monitor fails to display any signal from the PC.
This issues persists regardless of the port it's connected to and regardless of input (I'm trying to use DP but it's the same outcome with HDMI). This is actually the 2nd such monitor I've received, as there was the same issue with the first one and MC sent a new one, believing it was a defective unit.
I have tried every troubleshooting method I could think of, as well as some suggested by MC support. Absolutely nothing works and I am at my wit's end. Anyone have any idea what I can do????

Greetings, just to verify, you have the new monitor plugged directly into the video card (the 1060) and all the other monitors are connected to this video card?
-
That's correct. All the issues above occur when trying to input from the GTX1060 video card.
However, this issue happens with the native DP input as well.
-
I have heard of similar issues like this before, but not necessarily on this monitor. What does Windows show your display resolution as being in Settings?
-
Right now it shows 1920 x 1080, which matches to the Dell monitors that are connected. When I manage to get the Asus monitor into the display, Windows automatically adjusts to 3840x1080 resolution to match that monitors settings.
Also, to update from the prior message, here are a few more things that also did not solve the problem:
- getting rid of windows PIN login screen
- changing BIOS settings to "multi monitor"
- uninstalling/reinstalling graphics card drivers (for both onboard & GTX1060)
-
What happens if you set the 3840x1080 manually? Have you also tried checking with ASUS support to see if they are aware of any known issues? https://www.asus.com/support/CallUs/
-
I tried Asus and the level 1 support agent had no viable fixes. Has been escalated but it's unclear when they get back to me. None of the troubleshooting options available through the website have worked in solving the problem.
I will try force-setting the resolution on a working display, prior to powering down and re-starting with only the new Asus monitor connected. Will provide feedback.

Try DDU. It can uninstall the drivers for your card, and any osd drivers that might have been installed too.
-
Ty, will try this if the resolution change is unsuccessful. I did try uninstalling/reinstalling graphics card drivers (for both onboard & GTX1060), but if something got hung up, perhaps that will get it.
-
Windows does not allow me to set to 3840 x 1080 manually, since that exceeds the capabilities of the existing (old) monitors.
-
Can you try setting it to that manually with the other monitors unplugged, and ensure it is set as your default display? Have you ever set up NVIDIA Surround with your other displays?
-
- Added Asus monitor to existing display
- Set Asus monitor to primary display
- Following DDU (as recommended above), set resolution to 3840 x 1080 and ensured all drivers updated for both graphics card and monitor
- Disconnected the 3 Dell monitors so that only Asus monitor was on. Used monitor as normal for 5-10 minutes.
- Restarted PC with only Asus monitor connected
- "NO SIGNAL"
In the NVIDIA menu, the option for Surround is greyed out.
-
The best thing we can suggest at this time is to see if the issues persist on another computer, that would help verify if it is a monitor or PC issue.
-
Appreciate all the suggestions to this point. The spot I'm at is that if it were the monitor, it likely wouldn't work at all. If it were the PC, I wouldnt be able to use it with the older monitors (as I am right now).
I've reached out to Asus for potential solutions, but not hopeful.
