Wifi working very poorly on a brand new PowerSpec G509
Hi - I just got a PowerSpect G509 a few days ago and the wifi is working very poorly. It seems to be dropping connections every 10 seconds or so. If I setup a Zoom and monitor the network traffic via Task Manager / Resource Manager I can see it run with decent bandwidth for about 10 seconds and then no activity for about 3-5 seconds (network activity drops to 0 and the Zoom freezes), and then it starts up again for 10 seconds (the video/audio on zoom resume), then 3-5 seconds of no activity (Zoom's statistics reports 100% packet loss), and this repeats forever.
I've tested other devices at that same location in my house on the wifi and they work fine. I ran an ethernet cable from the G509 to my router and the networking works totally fine. So it seems like there's something very wrong with the wifi adapter on a brand new machine. Anyone have any ideas on how I should proceed? Anything to do besides contact customer support directly?
Thanks!

Greetings. The first thing I would verify with your PC is that you have the wireless antennas plugged in to the rear of the computer?
See example:
-
Hi Ian - yes I do have the antennas plugged in. The bandwidth is good but connections drop like every 10 seconds.
-
Please give this and try and see if it makes any change -
1. Right click on the start button, typically found at the lower left, and pick Device Manager.
2. Expand the arrow next to "Network Adapters"
3. In the list below Network Adapters, we will want to uninstall the driver that typically will say "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi" or "802.11" in its description
4. Double click on the one that says this in its name.
5. On the properties screen that opens, go to the driver tab and click on Uninstall at the bottom and leave the box unchecked.
6. Once uninstalled, restart the system and Windows automatically reinstalls the driver on restart.
7. Once restarted, reconnect to your wireless network and enter the password/key for your network.

Hi Ian I tried doing that and it didn't make a difference. Here is what the network activity looks like while on a zoom - every 10 seconds or so it cuts out entirely for a few seconds.

I am sorry to hear that did not help, another thing we can try is the latest driver update available for the motherboard (ASUS Prime B550-M-A AC) - you can download that directly from this link and see if that helps with this situation: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_B550M-A_AC/Realtek_WIFI_Driver_V2024.0.10.102_WIN10_64-bit.zip

I imagine you've tried moving the antenna around to different parts of your setup? Those stock antennas are decent, but aren't the best of the best. Do you have any other antennas to try out?
I was having issues with my sons PC. Even after upgrading to an AX Wifi card it would still drop out of nowhere. I upgraded my router to a beefy AX router and it fixed all my issues. I have a TON of Wifi devices though. Have you tried it with only the PC on the Wifi?

Thanks Ian and JohnDaBeard - I'll give those a shot. Even crappy Chromebooks work fine on wifi from the exact same location - it is literally like 10 feet from the wifi AP.

You're welcome, please let us know how this goes.
