No Graphics Output Protocol
G436 owner here. Well, most of it at least. I have upgraded case, cpu cooler, psu, added another m.2 ssd, and gpu.
Everything worked fine for me until last week when my cpu cooler pump died. I ordered a replacement, installed it, and went into bios to set custom fan curves (i installed a liquid freezer II aio, which runs off the cpu fan header, not the pump header). Upon exiting to bios, other changes that I had not chosen popped up (refer to my first post here about this "custom z490" that has the worlds WONKIEST bios), so i reset bios to optimized defaults. Rebooted, changed RAM to XMP and i ran the pc as normal. Bench tested, played some games, everything worked great. Two days later, i turned on the PC from being completely off, and it starts up, shuts off , and then turns back on and I get the:
"There is no GOP (Graphics Output Protol) support detected in this card. 'BIOS CSM/UEFI Mode' settings in BIOS will be changed to disabled
Press F1 to run setup.
Press F2 to load default values and continue"
Is there some setting i need to change in BIOS? This is the current setup: * indicates it came with the G436

It sounds like the BIOS reset to fail safes and enabled CSM which you don't need legacy support. It's looking for a legacy video OpRom. It's making the correct setting change, to switch BIOS CSM/UEFI mode to UEFI. If you enter the BIOS, load defaults and XMP, does the issue repeat? Another question, you had mentioned the PC was off. Were there by chance any losses of power between then and the last time you had your PC on?

No, no power loss. Even if there was, I run a UPS. I booted to BIOS today and set the XMP to enabled, as I had noticed it gets turned off when I hit F2 on the GOP error screen on boot up. I . Where is the option to switch BIOS to UEFI?

It would be under Boot, but I don't think that's it. It seems the system is failing to POST on a cold boot, then it falls back on failsafes and you see this error code. Keep an eye on it, we need to verify a minimum time frame for the system being off for this to occur.

So the night following my reply, I booted, got the GOP error, and hit F1 for setup. Reset XMP and now it boots fine. Does that make sense? It's very confusing as to why it started.

It does make sense with my previous explanation. We need to determine if this was a one off issue, or if it's reoccurring. The reason I asked about a possibly power loss is the CMOS battery is possible here. If it drains and CMOS resets, the board is going to POST and probably fall into failsafes. Usually even if the battery is dead, so long as you have power at the wall you'll retain those settings.

I see. I am on my 5th boot so far since originally posting and so far no issues. Most times between uses are about 20 hours. Turn off at midnight, back on around 730 pm

Strange, keep an eye on it. @ me if it happens again.
