G443 fan curves
Hey guys, I recently switched to the MSI provided BIOS since i was getting a bunch of blue screens but forgot to take not of the fan settings in BIOS. The fans are now louder than they used to be. Would anyone have a picture of the settings or know what they are? Thanks in advance

In the BIOS to to Hardware Monitor, select the fan header and set it to PWM. It doesn't detect the fan controller properly and runs it in DC mode. This is fixed in our custom BIOS. What was the issue you were having on the factory BIOS? BSOD's, CTD's, black screen crashes?
I'm currently working on 7D25vAE for this board. Expect it to be ready next week.

Ah, ok I'll try that out. I was getting blue screens, when I uploaded the minidumps to microsoft forum they said the dumps didn't have anything specific causing the blue screens and recommended updating bios, drivers, and running memtest86. I'll run this for now then try out the new BIOS, thanks.

Random BSOD's generally indicate a hardware issue. Memory is a likely candidate, memtest86 is a good place to start. Let me know what your results are. It's highly unlikely the random BSOD's are a BIOS issue, you probably have something else going on.

So I ran memtest86 for 8 passes and had 0 errors so I guess that most likely rules out a RAM issue. BSOD only happened like once every 3 weeks so too soon to tell if BIOS update did anything. I guess next thing would see if there's any driver issues correct?

If it's that sporadic it's going to be very hard to detect. Might post a screenshot with bluescreenview: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bluescreenview-x64.zip
It'll show the BSOD history and the error. Not as informative as analyzing the dump file, but it'll give us a better idea.

Random, vague and pretty rare. You might try this tool: https://hcidesign.com/memtest/
It's another type of memtest. Memtestx86 is an accuracy test, this is more of a stress test. It might reveal something that Memtest didn't pickup. With the free version you have to run multiple instances covering up to 2829MB. So with 32GB, I'd probably run like 8 instances of it. Let them cover at least 200% and see if it throws any errors. The Pro version is $5. With it you just enter the core count and it'll open a thread for each core and thoroughly saturate your RAM.

Ok well ran that test till each test was around 200-250%, 8 tests running simultaneously with no errors. Any other suggestions or should I just wait until another BSOD, maybe run driver verifier?

For now, I'd wait and see what the error is when/if it BSOD's again.

Hi, it's been a while but I wanted to check in after the whole Intel CPU issue has come to light. Assuming my issues could have been caused by this and that it has the chance to cause damage to the CPU, is there a way for me to know if any permanent damage has occurred?

It's possible. You can get the BIOS with the Intel default limits here:
We're working on the BIOS with the 0x129 microcode now for that board. Probably finished by the end of next week. I'll be posting a more in depth explanation of what the issue is along with information on CPU warranty extensions on PowerSpec once everything is settled internally.

So I updated the bios to the most recent Intel fix for the Z690 DDR5 board and the day after I got a blue screen. I haven't had one since the last BIOS update which was like a year ago. Is this coincidence or could there be something to do with the BIOS update?

Doesn't tell us anything more than the old BSOD's. Instability. Keep an eye on it, see if it happens again. Note what you're doing at the time if it happens again.

Ok well I got BSOD again. It mainly happens when I am playing some sort of game. Here is a screenshot of the BlueScreenView window

It's just unstable. We know it's not RAM, you tested that previously. Try the OCCT CPU test, set the data set to medium on the free version. Run it for an hour and lets see if we can artificially produce a failure.

Ran OCCT CPU test for an hour and had no errors. Not really sure what to do. Last computer I built lasted 15 years and I could count the number of BSOD's on one hand. I've had more than that in less than a year with this build.

The CPU is still very possible. We have extended the warranty on that component to match the Intel 5 year warranty.

Must be very close to the edge of stability. Does the bluescreenview list show every BSOD you've encountered, or do you think there are some that aren't being logged?

It's most but not all. I've been getting them since shortly after I got the PC which was Aug of last year. The earliest logged BSOD looks to be Feb of this year.

It's going to be hard to diagnose without having parts to swap out and test. Doesn't seem like there's anyway to reproduce it easily besides just playing games. Might be best to get it checked in for a diagnostic and see what we can figure out in service.

Ok, I guess I'll have to bring it in then. I just got another BSOD trying to respond to this post actually. That's 4 BSOD's since applying the microcode update like 2 weeks ago.

Very strange. The custom BIOS applied the fix and limited power consumption. Odd for that to create instability, there has to be something else going on.

Hey, I wanted to try some more stuff on my own before having to bring it in and not have a computer for a while so I ran the driver verifier. It BSOD'd on boot so I had to boot into safe mode to turn it off. Here is the Blue Screen Viewer for that crash.
