PowerSpec BIOS - Intel Default Settings - 8/23

Will do, so far just the one time on HM8
-
That is exactly the same PSU in mine. I'm not having the fan issues you described earlier
-
@JerryRaia For me, I think it is because Microcenter replaced my AIO cooler with a Lian Li that is not part of the Powerspec spec. They also did not apparently use the correct fan headers on the MB——but I can't quite figure it out! It's caused me to not be able to control the fans with the BIOS or MSI Cooling app and the Lian Li app has taken over (even if deleted) and it's not a good app at all.
-
Sounds like it's controlled by Lian Li via USB 2 on the board. We don't use that due to driver signing issues. We can replace it with a Cooler Master Core 360.
-
The Lian Li is what's in my PC
-
That is the exact power supply that was giving me the EVENT 41 headache.
-
What PSU did you replace it with?
-
Seasonic 1000W.
-
Its been 2 days since the last "41". A new PSU will be my next move if (or when) it starts happening more often
-
I can help you pick if you're out of warranty. In warranty, we'll certainly cover it.
-
Thanks I still have a month or so left on warranty I think. I'm going to put HM9 back on and see how it behaves
-
2 weeks and no issues until just now. Anther 41 restart and again when clicking on a link. Very curious. I doubt now its the BIOS.
-
Mine rebooted today in the middle of doing nothing but browsing (CAD was running in the background but not active). Lost a bunch of work on a spreadsheet. Very frustrating.
-
So this mean don't go past the August update
-
I'm thinking it might be worth trying a new PSU
-
I'm confused as to why you are not trying out a new PSU. Zero shutdowns for me since I installed the new Seasonic PSU. No more frustration.
PS if you do, don't be lazy and reuse the power cables.
-
Well its been 2 weeks since the last 41 until today. I dont do anything critical on this PC so its not high on my list. I was just thinking I can use the same power cables before you said that! 😅
-
OK i did it, ordered this one:
Seasonic FOCUS Plus 1000 Gold SSR-1000FX 1000W 80+ Gold ATX12V & EPS12V Full Modular 120mm FDB Fan Compact 140 mm Size Power Supply
-
Good PSU, can't go wrong with Seasonic. They OEM for a lot of vendors and that's usually what you're looking for with a PSU. Superflower is excellent as well. We just started carrying their units fairly recently. They were the OEM for EVGA's high end PSU's for a long time.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW With all this talk about going for the 1000W PSU to give more overhead for power spikes—-I noticed MC is only showing a Super Flower up to 850W.
-
850W's should never be a problem for your system. We calculate power consumption and target a 65-70% max load as a baseline. We run it at that with synthetic testing, but real world you should never actually hit that. But it's certainly possible for a PSU to fail overtime.
-
I installed the Seasonic (with the new cables). Running it in Normal mode. Do you do the same or Hybrid mode?
-
Always recommend Normal or Eco mode off. It's basically just shutting the fan off when power consumption is low, it's quieter, but I'd prefer to run it.
-
That was my thinking too, thanks
-
Hate to add on, but shortly after updating to the x12B, I began experiencing BSOD events. I've had two within the past couple weeks and each has occurred while gaming. The error I found in my logs is the same as what has been reported, the event 41.
-
Sorry for the trouble. Can you roll back to the HM8 BIOS and verify the issue goes away?
-
sure, I can give that a shot. Do you have the file I can use, or should I use the one from MSI’s site? -
Try the HM8 BIOS on the front page, that's the older 0x129 microcode.
-
I'm seeing x12b for everything. My MoBo is the MSI Pro Z790-P WIFI
-
Sorry, the other users were the MSI MPG Z790 Edge, though you were running the same. I'll have to find a BIOS Monday. Try this one in the meantime:
