@PowerSpec_MikeW
That's my bad for not specifying before. Appreciate the link, I'll give that a try while waiting for the PowerSpec BIOS. -
I have ordered a new PSU and will replace mine when it arrives. @PowerSpec_MikeW Can you let me know how to accomplish the replacement for the AIO Cooler Master Core 360 you mentioned previously?
-
It would be in store service done as a warranty repair.
-
What's the latest on this?
Have any of the guys that changed PSU's had the Kernel Power 41 issue and random lock ups come back? Is the latest BIOS version stable, yet?
Started having crashes last summer, updated the August BIOS Intel Defaults update and problem went away for a few months, haven't updated to latest BIOS version b/c of some of the issues mentioned here.
Now the Kernal Power 41 crashes are back and my G475 is out of warranty by one week, which is highly annoying because I have the Event Logs for 36 different Kernel Power 41 events going back to last May…
-
I never saw an issue on any of our test units related to the PSU. Latest BIOS was stable, instability reported here is likely due to more conservative voltage on a CPU that has suffered some degradation. We did extend the warranty for the CPU, so you can still bring it in and have that checked and if faulty, replaced under warranty.
-
I havent had any 41's since I replaced the PSU a few months ago in my G475.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Microcenter Towson is telling me I have to deal with Intel directly regarding CPU degradation replacement b/c I'm one week out of warranty, vs them handling the replacement in house at MC, which involves me creating a ticket with Intel, paying extra for cross shipping, taking the CPU to MC Towson, paying $50 base troubleshooting fee & $80 CPU install fee, then shipping the old CPU back to Intel. Does that sound correct?
@JerryRaia Thanks for your update! Are you running the latest BIOS update, or stay with the older?
-
That's not how that works at all. All the parts are OEM on our PowerSpec systems. I'll look into this week.
@JerryRaia
Glad your system is working. Certainly possible the issue is just a failing PSU. The intermittent restarts are a momentary loss of power. Could be PSU/VRM.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Appreciate it!
-
@ZM2 Im running the latest BIOS
-
I finally replaced my PSU with a Seasonic 1000W and instantly there were no more issues. I mean it went from crashing EVERY time I used my architectural program to NEVER crashing again. There never was a newer BIOS update from MC for my specific hardware, so I am just using the latest from MSI.
-
@JerryRaia Got it.
@MrDrew Thanks for your input!
-
We should have a BIOS based on the latest available on the front page. If you need a BIOS update and something isn't available let me know. As an example on the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WIFI board, HM9 is based on 7D91vHE.
-
I guess I'd be curious. I have the Z690-A WIFI. I am not sure where to see if the MB is the DDR4 or DDR5 version, but I can see DRAM running at 5600 so I figure it is DDR5. I'm running 7D25vAK.
-
I'm glad the power supply replacement fixed the EVENT41 shutdowns for other people
. I have not had issues either after replacing the OEM Powerspec one with the Seasonic one. Don't be a cheapskate when it comes to PSU's.
-
The DDR4 version actually says DDR4. Z690-A WIFI DDR4. The DDR5 version doesn't say. It's just Z690-A WIFI. You can check your RAM speed as well.
-
Thanks @PowerSpec_MikeW . I was wondering if MC was putting out another BIOS update for this particular MB. I am definitely DDR5 on the Z690. Or should I just keep running the MSI version of BIOS. @blender I took your advice along with others here and also replaced all the cables at the same time as the new PSU. There were several in the case on the OEM PSU that were not even connected to anything, so I cleaned them out too. The Seasonic was not cheap, around $185. My only remaining problem is figuring out how to get rid of the L-Connect fan control and move it back to MSI….it seems it is stuck in there for good.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Hey Mike, any updates from your team on the correct process? Thanks!
-
Our custom BIOS is based on 7D25vAK. There's nothing newer.
Not yet, I asked someone to check with service on this. I'll get an update on Wednesday.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Appreciate it, Sir!Also curious is there’s any recourse with PSU replacement a week out of warranty, if I have Event 41 logs going back several months?
-
Sure, we'll cover it. Townsend store you said?
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Towson/Parkville store, 1957 E Joppa Rd.
Please let me know anything you need from my side. Thank you! -
@PowerSpec_MikeW Intel is pointing me to this link, which is what I think you were hinting at regarding support, boxed versus OEM: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000029613/processors.html
-
Yes, anything in that system is OEM and should go through us. I'm waiting on a response from that store. I'll let you know.
-
Take it back in at your convenience, let me know if you have any issues.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW Awesome, I’ll stop
in tomorrow. Thanks Mike! -
Got the new processor installed today under OEM/Intel warranty at no cost, and she's running great so far! Will let you all know if any other issues.
Thanks again for your help!

Hey mike. Im currently having an issue with my power spec g475 pre built i purchased 1/20/24. Im rocking the MPG z790 Edge wifi (ms-7d91) with the intel I9 14900kf. Iv noticed im getting degraded performance over the last few months. While running Hwinfo it is showing CPU cache L1 errors. Also in event viewer i have this Whea-logger that keeps popping up
A corrected hardware error has occurred.
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 56Any help with this ? Im currently running bios version E7D91IMS.HEO
I also understand i am out of the 1 year factory warranty so im not sure if anything can be done here. i stumbled upon this thread after searching my issue.
Thanks for any help .
-
That's the most recent BIOS. If you're still encountering errors the system should be brought in for warranty service.
-
Does it still hold any warranty if it was purchased 1/20/24?
