The 2022 Monitor Madness Build Guide
Micro Center's Monitor Madness is still going strong with over 150 monitors on sale - including the fantastic 27" LG Ultragear 1440p, 144hz monitor for $100 off!
And to celebrate this stellar monitor and an unbeatable price, we've put together a stylish build designed to take advantage of everything it has to offer:
Monitor: LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B.AUS 27" 2K WQHD (2560 x 1440) 144Hz Gaming Monitor
The centerpiece of the build, the LG Ultragear is a 2k, 144Hz monitor, and we want to make sure we push it to its limits with our build. We'll be taking advantage of AMD FreeSync technology along with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to maximize graphical output and leave some power to spare. And at only $279.99, it's the perfect price to be the reason for the season.
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Vermeer 3.7GHz 6-Core AM4 Boxed Processor - Wraith Stealth Cooler Included
AMD's Ryzen 5 5600X is the perfect sweet spot of power and price. The 5600X is a six-core, 12 thread processor, with operating speeds of 3.7GHz and can be boosted up to 4.6GHz. Plus, it comes with its own cooler, saving you money in your budget that can be put towards beefing up other components.
Motherboard: ASUS B550-A ROG Strix Gaming AMD AM4 ATX Motherboard
Just because we're building to support a monitor doesn't mean we can't make it look good. The ASUS B550-A ROG Strix is a great motherboard, with DDR4-3200 support, multiple M.2 NVMe slots, and PCIe 4.0 support and looks good doing it. Black with silver trimming and pops of color, it's the perfect backdrop for our build.
Graphics Card: PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Red Devil Triple-Fan 12GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics Card
What's the point of a 2k, 144Hz monitor if you can't make use of it? The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is more than capable of maxing out the LG Ultragear on both esports and AAA titles. And if you need a little bit of a boost, AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution can give you the edge you need.
In keeping with our white theme, we've got a gorgeous set of white Corsair DDR4-3200 RAM, totaling out at 16GB - more than enough to handle gaming, streaming, and browsing. But if you need more, you've got two open DIMM slots to boost your system up to 128GB. Plus: RGB.
Hard Drive: Samsung 980 SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe Interface PCIe 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND 3 bit MLC Technology (MZ-V8V1T0B/AM) & Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
M.2 NVMe drives have gotten bigger, faster, and cheaper. And, as a result, they should be your main hard drive, with lightning-fast boot times and gaming load times, why use anything else? But if you do need extra space, a 2TB HDD can provide the backup you need.
Power Supply: Corsair RM750 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold ATX Fully Modular Power Supply - White
Don't muddle your new rig's aesthetics with a bunch of unsightly cables. Go with a fully modular power supply and only use what you absolutely need. Plus, then you could swap out the included cables with something that offers a bit more glow. Like some RGB strimers!
After you've put together a build this nice, you don't want to hide it or let it overheat. The Lian Li Lancool 205 Mesh is designed with airflow in mind, featuring a mesh front to protect you internals from dust all the while maximizing cooling systems. Plus the tempered glass side panel will let all your RGB glory shine through.
