PowerSpec BIOS Requests and Questions - AMD

The card is in the bottom slot (PCIEX16_2) next to the Thunderbolt header that it is connected to. I'm assuming it doesn't matter which USB header the card is plugged into. Could that be a problem?
I don't see a DTBT setting in the bios, what is that? Searching for DTBT didn't expose the setting.
Setting that slot to GEN3 doesn't seem to make a difference.
-
Discrete Thunderbolt. I can check it Monday. We can order a card and see what's going on, it'll take a few days.

I think I found the problem. There is a note in the motherboard manual:"2-18Chapter 2: Basic InstallationChapter 2
"The Thunderbolt™ card can only be used when installed to the PCIe x4 slot. Ensure to install your Thunderbolt™ card to the PCIe x4 slot."On my system the RTX4080 Super appears to be covering that slot. I think that means I am dead in the water unless you know of an exception.
My next question is whether the ASUS USB4 card can install in the available slot PCIEX16_2 or if it has a similar restriction. I couldn't find a reference on the support site that gives specifics on the slot for this card.
-
Odd that it matters since the card is physically x4, the manual shows it in an x16. I'll ask ASUS about it and see if we can order one for testing.
-
a post from someone else showing DTBT bios settings. I dont see these on my system.
-
Could the problem be that it needs a PCIE5 slot? Only the PCIEX16_1 and the PCIEX4 slots seem to support PCIE5.
-
Couldn't get the Thunderbolt card anywhere. I ordered the USB4 card and will test once received.
-
Amazon has them in stock.

Ordered. Should have them by the end of the week.
-
Or I could ship mine to you.
-
I've got both coming in.
-
Still working on it, trying to find a Thunderbolt hub or enclosure to test. Did you enable this setting in the BIOS?
-
yes, all set just as shown.
-
-
I have some OWC TB4 hubs I'm testing with. Seeing the same issue. I'm going to flash the NVM firmware tomorrow morning.
I am seeing the same error, regarding PCIe tunneling being disabled.
-
which slot is the card in?
Earlier in the thread I advised that ASUS support recommended recommended installing a sequential series of their bios updates (3035, 3042, 3057 and 3067). Apparently the 3067 bios installs the PCIE tunneling.
-
I've tested the bottom x16 and the x4 with the same result.
-
Wow, I expected different outcome.
have you been able to find the bios setting for PCIE tunneling?
-
Updated the firmware, it works, but as per the blurb you found in the manual, only in the x4 slot. Puts us back where we started. I'll test the USB4 when it arrives.
-
Unless you have some other hope of getting the TB4 card to work, I think I will return it since I can't access the x4 slot.
It would be nice to know why only the X4 slot works. (It would also be nice if ASUS put up a web page for this card explaining the ins and outs of installation.)
-
Their documentation is very limited. I'll let you know what I see with the USB4 card before you proceed.
-
I’m expecting my USB card tomorrow.
I appreciate all the effort you’ve put in on this project!
-
Haven't gotten the shipment yet. I am contacting an FAE at ASUS for an explanation on this.
-
received the USB4 card today.
-
Installed the USB4 card today in the PCI16_ex2 slot.
The usb controller is showing under "Other devices" in the device manager, but has no driver.
I have tried using the bios updater, but get a fail message.
-
I assume you installed this driver:
If so, in Device Manager, what's the hardware ID of the device?
-
Yes, I did install it but can't tell if it installed correctly.
The image in previous message labeled devmgr1.png shows PCI bus 103, device 0, function 0
-
Go to details tab and select Hardware ID's. I want to see if the ID is in the inf.
-
See the attached for hardware id's.
The system throws a "no driver available for this device" error.
-
It's an Asmedia ASM4242 USB controller. The driver in the package is for an ACPI driver, there's nothing for this device included. Manual seems to indicate it's inbox or available on Windows Update, which doesn't seem to be the case. Or it's target at an ASUS CHID, and not a PowerSpec CHID. I'll ask ASUS.
